This series includes correspondence, memorandums, reports, newspaper clippings, and teletypes relating to the research and development activities of the United States military, aerospace companies, universities and other National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA), later National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facilities primarily in California and Washington state, but also in Texas and Colorado. The records cover a range of topics including contract files for projects such as the interplanetary and lunar flight project (Vega) developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), symposia and conference summaries for meetings such as the Manned Space Station Symposium, background information on aerospace companies including correspondence, reference memorandums and trip reports summarizing commercial, military and space research and development. Internal management materials include legislative program files, reorganization planning for the Western Coordination Office (WCO), later the Western Operations Office (WOO) and the Western Support Office (WSO) and correspondence with other NACA/NASA units such as NASA headquarters, Lewis Research Center and Goddard Space Flight Center.
